Student Opportunities

Summer Research Opportunities:

(FYI, external NSF REU and NASA options are VERY COMPETITIVE in the Env Sciences – I suggest building up experience and credentials in research through an initial summer and/or semester of faculty-mentored research with a Marist faculty member – the lower option)

NSF REUs (Research Experiences for Undergraduates), and similar:
Searchable national databases:

Marist Faculty-mentored Research w/ Dr. Z (or other faculty)
Marist-student-only undergraduate research grants (research w/ Marist faculty):
– ~8-weeks in length: ~$1000 to ~$5000 stipends
– setup a meeting with Dr. Z to learn about other grant options you could apply to to fund your own research interests (funded grant stipends can range from ~$1500 to $7000)
– the earlier you come to me with your interests in the academic year, the better (i.e., starting Fall Semester to consider research for the summer ahead is ideal)!

Job and Internship Portals for Summer and Post-college Opportunities:

(FYI, many post-college jobs don’t get posted to these databases till March/April)

Interpretative, Management, Field Technician, and Trail Crew Jobs in National Parks and Federal Lands:

Federal Environmental and Natural Resource-related Jobs (e.g., Forest Service, etc.)

NY State – Department of Environmental Conservation:

NYC – Department of Environmental Protection:

Ecology-related Field Technician Jobs:

Wildlife Ecology-related Field Technician Jobs:

Hydrology and Earth Science related Field Technician Jobs:

Tech-heavy Ecology-related Field Technician Jobs:

Huyck Preserve Summer Internships in the Catskills:

-visit Marist Career Services on campus, you can search for local internships (including options for internships during the semester too) through their exclusive Marist-only database, FoxQuest:

-speak with Dr. Feldman in our department, he is the official internship coordinator for ENSC and is happy to help (including options for internships during the semester too)!
