Summer Research Opportunities: 


Federally-funded REUs (Research Experiences for Undergraduates), and similar:
(FYI, external REU options with NSF, NASA, and DOE are VERY COMPETITIVE in the Env Sciences – I suggest building up experience and credentials in research through an initial summer and/or semester of faculty-mentored research with a Marist faculty member – the lower option)

Mohonk Preserve Summer Internships in Research:

Huyck Preserve Summer Research Internships in the Catskills:

Marist Faculty-mentored Research w/ Dr. Z (or other faculty)
Marist-student-only undergraduate research grants (research w/ Marist faculty):
– anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks in length over the summer: ranging from $1000 to $7000 stipends
– grant options you can write proposals for to fund your own research (with guidance from Dr. Z):

Oct Catskills Collaborative – Student Research Grants $7000 over 10 weeks only specific project topics available, done in conjunction with Dr. Z and water management partners in the Catskills
Oct Cary REU Summer Projects (co-advised by Dr. Z) $7000 over 10 weeks only specific project topics available, done in conjunction with Dr. Z and Cary researchers (co-advised)
Nov NY State Water Research Institute up to $7000, up to 10 weeks very competitive, research that involves water resource issues relevant to NY, the Hudson, and the region
Dec Explorer’s Club Student Research Travel Grants up to $5000, variable length for international research
Feb Hudson River Foundation – Polgar Fellowships $5000 over 10 weeks research relevant to issues on the Hudson River proper, Marist students have been very competitive for these grants
Feb HRES McKeon Award up to $1000 mainly for research supplies
Feb Hyuck Preserve – Student Research Grants up to $3500 projects must take place on the preserve (Catskills)
Feb Marist Tarver Program (for work with local non-profits) substantial summer stipend best if conceived in conjunction with partner non-profit organization, discuss with Dr. Z
Mar McHenry Grants – Open Space Institute (for work with local non-profits) $5000 conceived in conjunction with partner non-profit organization, discuss with Dr. Z
Apr Marist School of Science Student Summer Research Awards ~$4500, over 8 weeks upper-level Marist students are the most competitive, applications solicited via e-mail, any research applicable
Apr Sherryl Todd Family Funding up to $5000, for up to 10 weeks upper-level Marist students are the most competitive, applications solicited via e-mail, any research applicable
Aug AGU Fall Meeting Student Travel Funding $500 for travel to present your accepted poster abstract
– the earlier you come to me with your interests in the academic year, the better (i.e., starting Fall Semester to consider research for the summer ahead is ideal)!
